Soccer

The Hubert family has finally discovered soccer. As usual, Elias is the one to drag us all along. Dad is being dragged along to serve as an assistant coach -- actually, an assistant to the assistant?
9 first graders on the team, and lots of teams in Rochester. Practices on Monday and Wednesdays at the elementary school near our neighborhood (but not so close as to not require a driver) and games on Saturdays.
Two games under his belt, which I think Elias and his Dad know that they won, but there is really not supposed to be score-keeping (are you kidding, not keeping score - impossible!)
The first Saturday, Mom obviously did not adequately check the forecast and everyone was dressed in layers, and it was in the 60's and sunny. Given it was my first experience as a "soccer mom," I didn't do too bad. We found a blanket in the trunk to sit on (didn't think to bring lawn chairs) but I did score big with all the siblings with plenty of bubbles.

The second Saturday, we dressed warm again because it was in the 30's and wet from previous rains. We were only missing the umbrella, but only for the wind as we didn't actually get rained on.
The other kids particularly like the practices because there's a nice school playground near where the soccer practice is.
Elias is taking to the sport - but then he just takes to sports things without a lot of fanfare - just likes to play and especially the social aspects. We'll keep this up for 5 or 6 more weeks and then it will be on to something else.

Extreme Makeover-Home Edition

The kids and Mom just watched a rerun of the April 12 episode of Extreme Makeover Home Edition online on ABC.com last night. The story of a new home for the Kadzis family. This is a very moving episode about a family that has adopted 6 children from China, making a total of 7 kids in the family. It was a tear jerker to be sure, but a wonderful story of a fabulous family that has such great perspective. We would give it 5 stars and recommend it if you missed it live.

Egg Salad, by Yasmin

Sioux Falls Easter Trip

Fun times at the Staybridge Suites (THANKS Grandma and Grandpa Hubert!!) in Sioux Falls, SD. Bob's parents and his sister, her husband and their twin boys met up with the MN Hubert's for a 3-day weekend.

Six cousins, an indoor pool, plenty of beds for mixing up the sleeping arrangements amongst the cousins and 6 tv's -- it really had everything we could have wanted!

The kids swam, played games, designed lots of perler bead creations, ate lots of great food and just really enjoyed each other's company.

The Easter Bunny found the kids at the hotel and left buckets full of plastic eggs filled with candy -- and he even found the 3 dozen hard-boiled eggs that the kids decorated and distributed them around the courtyard of the hotel. We were quite a bit of entertainment for the hotel staff.
