Wrestling

Elias has been participating in the Youth wrestling program at Mayo High School since January. This is his second year. On Tuesday night, he had a meet with competition from all four of the local High Schools. He wrestled twice and although he didn't win either match, he has some pretty good technique and had fun trying out what he's been learning. Here's some photos of Elias in action!

The family will go to Kenyon, MN on Saturday for a bigger wrestling meet which has trophies (which of course is what he really wants).

Ice Skating Tea Party

Yasmin turned 9 last week and Kia turned 4. Yasmin had 6 girl friends for ice skating at the Rec Center followed by a tea party with most of the trimmings. It was a great time for all, including Kia and Ahn-Bao who took to the ice in their boots and enjoyed racing around with the "walker" assists.

Day 4 at Home

Thursday and Friday were no school days due to the -20 degree weather so today is the fourth day of everyone being under one roof. We needed a little shake-up so Yasmin and Elias each had a friend over to play. One more day off of school tomorrow for Martin Luther King Jr. and then a 3-day week with Friday off again for end of the semester. Lots of togetherness . . . .

Yasmin's Namesake

We had the wonderful opportunity to see Yasmin's namesake again today.
Yasmin II is named after a very special girl, Yasmin I that Bob met while teaching in the Fall of 1999 at Hoover Elementary in the Newcomer Center. Bob thought she had all of the qualities anyone could ever dream of in a daughter and a beautiful name for a beautiful girl, inside and out!
Yasmin I is now a college student at the U of MN studying to become a Doctor. Yasmin II is almost 9 years old and studying to do great things!

The photos of Yasmin I holding baby-Yasmin II were taken in March 2000 at Elton Hills Elementary. The photos of Yasmin I and II side by side were taken in January 2009 at Mayo High School.

Elias Sleeps

Elias is the best sleeper in the family, and also the most unusual. His favorite is the weekend treat of sleeping in the living room, and Elias' designated spot is the armchair with the footstool extender, but it really wouldn't matter the facilities . . .

and even back when (July 2003) . . .
